What is great tangs?

Great Tangs is a species of marine fish belonging to the family Acanthuridae. They are also known as sailfin tang or sailfin surgeonfish due to the sail-like dorsal fin on their body. These fish are found in the Indo-Pacific region, mainly around reef areas.

Great Tangs have a flat, disc-shaped body with a bright yellow coloration in the front half of the body and a darker shade towards the tail. They have a pointed snout and a pair of sharp spines on either side of the tail fin. These spines are used for self-defense and can cause serious injury to predators.

Great Tangs are omnivorous and feed on a variety of algae, marine plants, and small invertebrates such as crustaceans and worms. They have a unique dental arrangement, where the teeth are fused together to form a beak-like structure that is used to scrape algae off the reefs.

These fish are popular in the aquarium trade due to their attractive colors, unique body shape, and peaceful nature. However, they require a large tank with plenty of swimming space and a well-maintained diet to grow and thrive. It is important to ensure that the aquarium environment mimics their natural habitat to prevent stress and disease.
